Welcome to Boy Scout Troop 990's website!

Troop 990 is located in the Greater St. Louis Area Council, Boone Trails District.  Our Chartered Organization is St. Paul United Church of Christ.  We meet on many Mondays throughout the month at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Old Monroe, MO.

Troop 990 has been chartered in Old Monroe, Missouri for over 40 years.  We currently have more than 20 Scouts ages 11 to 18 who meet regularly.  Our ongoing goal is to run a troop that operates in the manner designed by the National BSA Council.  We are a boy led, adult guided group that seeks to help build confident Scouts and responsible future citizens.  The Scouts are in charge, the Scouts make the decisions and the Scouts choose our camping destinations and general program.  It is the goal of the involved adult leaders to make sure that we provide an experience that allows boys to truly understand what it is like to be a Boy Scout.

The troop currently has three patrols and encourages all boys who are first class or higher to build leadership skills by serving as Troop Guides, the Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leaders and other support positions such as the Quartermaster, Scribe, Librarion and Chaplain Aide.

Community service is also an important aspect of being a member of Troop 990.  Scouts annually assist with community service projects, such as highway cleanup and the largest one-day food drive in the Boy Scouts of America: Scouting for Food.  Started in 1985 here in the St. Louis area, Scouting for Food has expanded to other councils across the country.  41 million items have been collected since 1985?  Each year, our Scouts, leaders and parents collect approximately two million items that will serve approximately 500 pantries within the Greater St. Louis Area Council. This food will meet a four-month demand for food in our area.

So how do I become a Boy Scout and a part of the Troop 990 Scouting Family?  The answer is quite simple; you must meet certain qualifications prior to becoming a Boy Scout...  You must have achieved one of the following qualifications in order to be considered for membership in the Boy Scouts of America and Troop 990; be 11 years old, or, have completed the fifth grade, or, have earned the Arrow of Light Award in Webelos.  That's it!  Simple things can lead you to a vast array of life experiences and leadership that you wouldn't necessarily acheive in other organizations.

Committed and interested parents stand behind successful Boy Scouts.  Every parent is asked to contribute in some way.  This may be by serving as a registered adult leader, as a member of the Troop Committee, or by simply participating in carpools to transport Scouts to their camps and activities.  Many parents find a merit badge that fits within their vocation or hobby which they can serve as a counselor for a couple of Scouts every year.  Most importantly, we ask that the parents encourage the Scouts and support them in their accomplishments!
