University of Scouting is an annual training event for Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity, Venturing, Sea Scouts, Order of the Arrow, district and council leaders and parents. It is an action-packed, fun-filled single day of supplemental training where participants choose from over 150 courses. Sessions are led by experienced volunteers who will help you enhance your ability to deliver a fun and exciting program to the Scouts. This unique day of seminars provides information, techniques, and best practices on how to improve your Scout program. Whether you are new to the program or a veteran of many years, the University of Scouting has something for you. The training is being held at Stratford High School (14555 Fern Drive, Houston, TX 77079).

Roundtable is a district monthly meeting typically held the first Thursday of the month at Church of Good Shepherd (715 Carrell St, Tomball, 77375) at 7:00 pm to help unit leaders plan and carry out their own program. Roundtable is a form of supplemental training for volunteers. The objective of roundtable is to give leaders program ideas; information on policy, events, and training opportunities; and an opportunity to share experiences and enjoy fun and fellowship with other Scouting leaders. As a result of the roundtable experience, unit leaders will be inspired, motivated, informed, and able to provide a stronger program for their Scouts.

The Boy Scouts of America relies on dedicated volunteers to promote its mission of preparing young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetime by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, nearly 1.2 million adults provide leadership and mentoring to Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturers.

Through the dedication of these many volunteers, the Boy Scouts of America remains the foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training in America. To these volunteers, we would like to say thank you for your dedication to Scouting. And, to adults who are not currently Scout volunteers, we invite you to become a volunteer and share in the positive experiences of the Scouting programs.

Training is an important part of learning to become an effective leader. Trained leaders impact the quality of programs, leader tenure, youth tenure, and a whole lot more. A trained leader is better prepared to make the Scouting program all it can be! Every Scout deserves a trained leader.

Basic Leader Training Course Descriptions:

Cub Scout Leader Training provides the specialized knowledge a new leader needs to assume a leadership role. Cub Scout Leader Training provides the specialized knowledge a new leader needs to assume a leadership role. The Den Leader Position-Specific Training course provides Cub Scout den leaders with the basic information they need to conduct successful den meetings. The Cubmaster and Assistant Position-Specific Training course is intended to provide Cubmasters and assistant Cubmasters with the basic information they need to conduct successful pack meetings. The purpose of the Pack Committee Challenge - Pack Committee Position-Specific Training is to familiarize pack committee members with the various responsibilities of the individual members of the committee as well as the committee as a whole. The goal is to help each pack committee work as a team to improve the Scouting experience for adult and youth members. These trainings are offered online at my.Scouting.org, at Cub Leader Pow Wow in November, University of Scouting in February, and taught by the district training team.

Youth Protection Training (YPT) is required for all new registered leaders and must be retaken every two years to maintain registration. YPT is designed to keep our youth safe from abuse. Participants learn the Boy Scouts of America's Youth Protection Guidelines, signs of abuse, and how to report suspected abuse. Every registered leader must take Youth Protection Training online at my.Scouting.org. A login is required, but anyone may create a user account and view the courses. Registered members of the BSA may provide their member numbers (as part of the user profile) to receive credit. Adults attending day camp or resident camp must also take Classroom Facilitated YPT. Find a Classroom Facilitated YPT course near you.
